As usual, whatever recorded in this blog is always a bit outdated. The point is whatever that is worth to record down here, must not be missed out.
On 23rd August, at 3:45am, I was awaken by the first contraction pain. I lied on bed, trying to get back to sleep and the pain came again. I got up and went into the toilet. Nothing seems different. So, I went back to sleep. But the contraction pain came once every 7 minutes. At around 4am, I decided to wake my husband up. He was quite blur at first. I told him I was having backache and not sure whether it is the contraction pain or not. He sit up and became alert right away. The pain continued to strike on me every now and then. Ccw informed his parents while I called my mama to check with her whether the backache she got is the same like what I was having. Well, she said it could be. The day is finally here. I do not know what is my feeling that time. Everything seems to happen so fast.
It was a Saturday. My doctor won't be around on Saturday. Ccw called him and ask for his opinion. The doctor told him to send me to the hospital and recommended us a doctor. I was actually hoping that he can deliver the baby for me.
Anyway, it was already 5am in the morning by then. Ccw took bath and went out to buy me food. I called up Amy, the nurse, the angel (you will know why later in this post) to tell her I was going to the hospital. She told me that she is working full shift today and would drop in to see me in the delivery room. Also, she asked me to hurry up to get to the hospital. I was a bit relaxed. Maybe it is because I thought the contraction pain does not so scary after all. Took bath and put on my favourite big red flowery blouse, my mood is pretty. :)
Had my breakfast and still able to joke with my fil. At around 6 something, we went to the hospital. I can still walked from the parking lot to the hospital reception and then from the reception to the ward by making a stop in between. Lying on bed, it is quite boring.
The nurse came in and informed me that the doctor I was looking for was not available that day too and asked me to look for other doctor. Blank. I have no idea which doctor is good at that last minute. Luckily, the nurse informed my doctor and he called to recommend 2 other doctors. I was still hoping that he can help me deliver the baby. Haha. Unfortunately he told us that the baby is most probably delivered that afternoon. We agreed that if the baby only arrived at night, he would help me to deliver.
Mama visited me that morning. It is so nice to have mama and husband by my side when I am suffering from the contraction pain. Well, the pain is bearable in the morning. I am still having fun that time, eager to find out what is delivery all about. The dilation is up to 4cm by 12 noon. The pain is rated 4 (from 1-10. 1 is like poke a needle into your finger and 10 - it is so painful that one can die). Doctor told me that I can go into the delivery room after that.
I WALKED from the ward to the delivery room. I was inside the delivery room at 1pm++. Ccw was with me. The pain is getting stronger, I will rate it 5. The dilation remained 5cm for quite a long time. Doctor asked whether I have the urge to pass urine. Doctor suspected that the bladder pressed against the cervix. After clearing the bladder, the dilation is 6cm. The pain rating by that time is 6. When the dilation reached 8cm, it was already 3pm+. I can hardly stand the pain, it could be the pain getting stronger or I had been suffering from the contraction pain for too long already (12 hours). I requested for the 'gas and air' - a mixture of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oxygen. Too bad, it does not really help to relieve the backache that I had. Somehow, I felt slightly better after breath in the gas. That kept me going for another centimeter. One more centimeter and the dilation will be completed. I lost my patient. I was holding ccw on my left and Amy on my right. Turn left, I could scold poor ccw, turn right, I got the gentle Amy's attention who understood the pain that I was suffering and kept assuring me that the pain is going to over soon right after the delivery. I will rate the pain degree as 8 at the final stage.
Midwife came in after doctor announced that the dilation complete and explained to me how to push my baby out at around 4pm. It sounds complicated at that moment. I doubted I can do it or not. Everyone must be shocked to hear that as that is the last stage. Amy kept encouraging me. I was told to push when the contraction pain struck, holding my thighs and head up. You see, so many things to do when I was suffering the pain! LOL. I pushed a few times, doctor and Amy saw the hair of baby Cola. I dunno how many push I tried, but after about 30minutes, I managed to push baby Cola's head out. I cannot believe it myself that I did it.
When the midwife placed baby Cola on my chest, only then I realised that I am the mother to my son now.
Thanks to ccw for not leaving me any second inside the delivery room.
Thanks to Amy for giving me encouragement and moral support during the delivery process.
I am thankful to the doctor, midwife and nurse. They are all very helpful.
